A team of University at Albany students and faculty will travel to Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. from August 29-September 11 to participate in a hurricane study coordinated by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration . UAlbany students Diana Thomas, Leon Nguyen, and Matt Janiga are scheduled to take part in the experiment.

ALBANY, N.Y (December 12, 2011) -- For black Americans, perceived racism may cause mental health symptoms similar to trauma and could lead to physical health disparities between blacks and other populations in the United States, according to a new study led by University at Albany Assistant Professor Alex Pieterse.
More than 100 people are expected to attend Local Lift, an new event geared at helping entrepreneurs and small startups grow their businesses.
The event, scheduled for May 17 at Hudson Valley Community College's TEC-SMART campus in Malta, runs from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Michael Franchell, one of the presenters at the event, described Local Lift as "an amorphous" group of volunteers who want to promote local business."

Albany, waar een deel van de State University of New York is gevestigd,
is de hoofdstad van de staat New York en ligt ten noorden van de city New York.
Bij Albany komen de rivieren Hudson en Mohawk bij elkaar.
Albany werd in 1624 door de Republiek der Zeven Verenigde Nederlanden gesticht als Fort Oranje, ter vervanging van Fort Nassau dat in 1615 was gesticht.
Het was voornamelijk een handelspost waar vooral beverpelzen werden ingekocht van de inheemse bevolking.
Feitelijk ontstond de stad in 1647 nabij het fort; de stad werd toen tot Beverwijck gedoopt en was de tweede stad van Nieuw-Nederland na Nieuw-Amsterdam.
De stichter was Brant van Slichtenhorst. In 1660 telde de stad 1050 inwoners.
De twee belangrijkste straten in de stad heetten de Handelaersstraet (nu Broadway)
en de Jonckheerstraet (nu State Street).
Om de stad bevond zich een ring van houten palissaden.
In 1664 veroverden de Engelsen het gebied. Ze doopten het fort om in Albany, ter ere van de Hertog van York en Albany, de latere koning Jacobus II van Engeland (de schoonvader van Willem III).
In 1797 werd Albany de hoofdstad van de staat New York.
